Euphonica

This is a cover design for a proposed Progressive Heavy Metal magazine. I designed the typeface for the masthead by joining Universe with a gothic face I found in a book. The idea with this intersection was to communicate the sophistication of classically trained musicians who are inspired by the folk and orchestral traditions of their native Northern European countries. I shot many photos to get this shot. Using a digital camera, I shot with a slow shutter speed to emphasize the unexpected melody found in this dark music.
