Sudan Genocide Posters

I created these two agitation propaganda posters to
raise awareness and provide information regarding
the conflict. This first poster was a purely typographic solution to address the issue.I physically cut, and ripped the word “genocide” out of the word “Sudan”
to create a visual metaphor for the damage the
genocide is having on the country of Sudan.

The next poster below deals with the idea of “witnessing.” I emphasized was the fact that as a world community we are currently witnessing a genocide yet little action has been taken. I chose to use eye
contact as a way to communicate this. Using the shape of the country within the continent of Africa
blocking out the human gaze of this Sudanese man suggests that although we have acknowledged the genocide as a political issue we have yet to deal with
it on a human level. The direct gaze of the man
connects with the viewers own eyes, forcing him or
her to consider themselves as a witness to a
genocide of their fellow humans.

Banners, T-shirts, Letter Writing Campaign

This was a continued effort of using design to raise awareness and take action against the genocide in
Sudan. The photos that follow are of banners I made
for a letter writing campaign. For the campaign
I wrote letters for students and professors to sign and mail to their congressmen and women. I educated people on the issues and talking points to call or write their own letters to congress and passed out
information on the issue.

The T-shirt, below left is a design idea for a future campaign. The shirt below right is one that was based
off the poster from the last page. I collaborated
with a student anti-genocide coalition high-school group in Massachusetts to make these shirts.
They sold the t-shirts at events to raise money for an anti-genocide NGO.
